Founding of the University—Founded in 1971 by His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the Vedic sage who has introduced to the world the most ancient continuous tradition of knowledge, the Vedic tradition of enlightenment in India.
Consciousness-BasedSM education—All academic disciplines at the University are taught in the light of pure consciousness, the source of all knowledge. The technology of Consciousness-Based education is the Transcendental Meditation program, which promotes success in learning and in life by systematically developing the total functioning of the student’s brain.
One course at a time—Students take only one course at a time, full time in small classes, for about four weeks each, making learning more effective and enjoyable.
Nonsectarian—The University has students from every major religion.
Accreditation—Maharishi University of Management is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (www.ncacihe.org).
Natural health program—Students learn simple, effective methods for creating and maintaining a balanced state of health. These methods enliven the inner intelligence of the body and strengthen its natural healing ability. Also, organic vegetarian meals are served fresh daily.
Location—Fairfield, Iowa, 50 miles west of the Mississippi River in southeast Iowa. The campus recently expanded to Maharishi Vedic City (two miles north)—America’s newest incorporated city—which was founded as a model of ideal city life.
Ratings—A national study, sponsored by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, put the University among the best U.S. colleges. In U.S. News “America’s Best Colleges 2005” the University is ranked #2 among Midwestern universities for “Highest Proportion of Classes Under 20.”
Alumni—The national alumni survey by American College Testing (ACT) found that the University’s alumni are far more satisfied with their college education than graduates from over 1,000 participating U.S. colleges and universities.
